Village of Santo Domingo woman claims K-9 alerted on prescription marijuana

Laura Kathleen Gillette

A 49-year-old Village of Santo Domingo woman was arrested with drugs after a traffic stop early Tuesday morning on Del Mar Drive.

Laura Kathleen Gillette had been at the wheel of a Toyota when she was pulled over shortly after midnight, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Her license has been suspended for failure to pay court obligations.

The officer asked for permission to search her vehicle.

“There isn’t any need to search,” she said.

A K-9 officer arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on the vehicle, indicating the likely presence of drugs.

Gillette claimed the dog had alerted on her prescription marijuana, even though she could not produce any proof she had any such prescription.

The search turned up crack cocaine, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.

She had been arrested in 2015 after she allegedly attempted to steal pink Susan G. Kohmen clothing from Wal-Mart.
