PWAC member says ‘we don’t need to beg’ for support for bridge embankment project

A Project Wide Advisory Committee member said Friday that the committee is well funded and doesn’t “need to beg” for support for the $1.7 million project to shore up the embankment of the Morse Boulevard bridge.

Community Development District 5 Supervisor Chuck Wildzunas made the comment at Friday morning’s board of supervisors meeting.

“We have funded the project wide committee so that we don’t need to beg for help,” said Wildzunas, who represents CDD 5 on PWAC.

PWAC, which includes representation from CDDs 5-10, earlier this month approved $159,000 for Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. to do the prep work for the $1.47 million rock revetment project that would shore up the embankment which has experienced sloughing over the past few years.

PWAC rejected calls to seek financial support for the work from the Developer and from CDDs 1 through 4. CDD 7 earlier this month agreed to send a letter to the Developer to seek support for the work. You can read more about that HERE

CDD 5 Supervisor Jerry Knoll said he was at a recent dinner party and was peppered with questions about the bridge.

“I want people to know there is nothing wrong with the bridge. It is the islands that have suffered severe erosion,” Knoll said.

District Manager Janet Tutt said she is planning to prepare educational materials about the bridge status.

“There is a lot of misinformation out there,” she said.
