A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting death in January at an Ocala apartment.
Ocala Police Department on Friday arrested 21-year-old Jaquez Barr for the shooting death of then 22-year-old Kerrian Dukes.
On Jan. 25, OPD responded to the scene for shooting that occurred at 10 NW 21st Place in North Roads Apartments. Multiple people fired weapons, resulting in three men being shot. Dukes was pronounced dead at a local hospital that evening. Barr and another man survived their injuries.
OPD obtained a warrant on Jan. 26 for the arrest of Barr and he was located in Deland on Jan. 28. Barr was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. During the course of the investigation, OPD detectives obtained video surveillance footage in which Barr can be seen pulling his weapon and shooting Dukes. Children were playing outside in the area when the shooting occurred. Barr later admitted to detectives that he shot Dukes, but claimed it was done in self-defense.
Barr is facing charges of second degree murder and culpable negligence.
