Well-known realtor in The Villages mounts defense in drunk driving case

Scott Hubbard

A well-known realtor in The Villages appears prepared to mount a vigorous defense in his drunk driving case.

Scott William Hubbard, 47, who lives on Foxgrove Avenue near Nancy Lopez Legacy Country Club, was arrested June 21 when he was driving a white Ford F-150 with the distinctive license plate, SEL NTV. He was driving with an open 12-ounce bottle of Corona beer without the truck’s headlight illuminated. The ERA Grizzard Real Estate agent had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and it smelled as if he had been drinking, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. His coordination appeared to be impaired as he attempted to retrieve his driver’s license. During field sobriety exercises, the Iron Man competitor made an incomplete turn, lost his balance and refused to attempt a one-legged stand. He would not provide a breath sample.

Hubbard has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Jaimie Washo Spivey

He has retained well-known criminal defense attorney Jaimie Washo Spivey. Their next date on the court calendar is an Aug. 6 plea negotiation conference.

Washo has successfully represented numerous clients through the years, including a well-known Villages foot doctor arrested on a DUI charge and a Palmer Legends golf pro in 2014 after he was arrested on a drunk driving charge after leaving BikeFest in Leesburg. Two of her clients, a Village of Hillsborough man accused of stealing a wallet and a Buffalo Adventures after-school employee accused of child cruelty, were able to escape prosecution in their respective cases. Last year, Washo negotiated a deal in which a Village of Sabal Chase woman accused of egging her ex-boyfriend’s house went to detox rather than face prosecution.
