A Villages official had a message Wednesday morning for dog owners who gather at an adhoc dog park near a retention pond.
“Thank you,” said Amenity Authority Committee member Ann Forrester.
She said she is pleased to see that the dog owners have been parking their golf carts in new parking spaces constructed with AAC money.
The gathering spot behind The Villages Regional Hospital got on the AAC’s radar last year when it was noted that the golf carts were damaging the grass.
The solution that had been considered was a $17,000 fence aimed at keeping the golf carts, rather than Villagers and their dogs, off the grass. However, the AAC opted instead to add golf cart parking, for about $3,000.
It appears to be working, Forrester said. She said dog owners appear to have gotten the message and have been using the recently completed parking spaces.
“I want them to know that it is appreciated,” she said.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee earlier this year agreed to put up a fence after a homeowner complained about dog owners gathering on a three-acre parcel behind his home. That fence has not yet been constructed due to an issue with The Villages’ long-time fencing contractor.
The dog owners attended a Community Development District 10 on April 19 to voice their opposition to the fence. The dog owners have indicated they plan to take their appeal to Monday’s PWAC meeting.
