Villager’s golf cart stolen from Orange Blossom Gardens home

Lois Dreher-LaPoe noticed her golf cart was missing from her Village of Orange Blossom Gardens home at about 4:30 p.m. Friday.

She immediately called Lady Lake Police who told her the golf cart had been impounded after it was discovered at Silver Lake golf course, stripped of its batteries.

“You just don’t expect something like that to happen here,” said Dreher-LaPoe who has lived in the same house in The Villages for 14 years.

For the time being, she is without a golf cart as it remains impounded.

“I guess they are checking it for fingerprints,” she said.

Once released, she is going to have to figure out a way to get the golf cart home. Replacing the batteries won’t be cheap.

“The police said they strip out the batteries to sell them,” she said.

A widow on a fixed income, Dreher-LaPoe said the golf cart may “just have to sit for  awhile.”
