Woman with weed arrested after running stop sign at Lake Sumter Landing

Candace Lania Pettit

A woman who ran a stop sign Tuesday night at Lake Sumter Landing was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop.

Candace Lania Pettit, 20, who lives in the Oakleaf Village Apartments on County Road 466 in Lady Lake, had been eastbound on Old Mill Run shortly before 11 p.m. when her vehicle ran a stop sign, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Pettit said she did not see the stop sign.

She was asked if she had any contraband or narcotics in her vehicle and Pettit admitted she had a “small baggie of weed” with a “grinder” and “two smoking pipes,” the arrest report indicated.

She handed the deputy a clear plastic baggie which contained marijuana as well as a white zipper pouch which contained two glass smoking pipes and a metal herb grinder.

She was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
