Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Summerfield Wal-Mart Monday afternoon after two people were reported as unresponsive in a vehicle in the store’s parking lot.
Paramedics also were called to the Wal-Mart, located at 17961 U.S. 27/441, and were able to awaken both of the people in the car, 28-year-old Ashley Crowley and her boyfriend, who refused treatment. Paramedics asked a sheriff’s sergeant to evaluate Crowley after seeing a used, crushed syringe on the floorboard of the passenger side of the vehicle where she had been sitting, a sheriff’s office report says.
The sergeant reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana as she instructed Crowley to step out of the vehicle. Crowley consented to be searched and the sergeant then found a clear plastic baggie in her bra that contained an off-white powdery/rock-like substance; approximately 2.3 grams of a green leafy substance in a clear plastic baggie; two small, clear CVS Pharmacy baggies, one with a clear, crystal-like substance in it and the other containing a small white pill with 54 411 on it; and a glass smoking pipe.
The off-white powdery/rock-like substance field tested positive for heroin/Fentanyl content, while the green leafy substance and the crystal-like substance tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine, respectively, the report says, adding that deputies determined the pill was a controlled substance called Sublingual.
A subsequent search of Crowley’s purse also revealed another plastic baggie containing 8.9 grams of a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. And after being read her rights, Crowley admitted to ownership of all the items that were found, the report says.
Crowley was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (felony) and possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams. She was released Monday at 4:43 p.m. on $7,000 bond.
Crowley has been in the Marion County Jail three times since April 2016, when she was arrested on drug and petit theft charges at the Dollar General Store in Summerfield. She also was arrested in March 2017 and charged with driving with a suspended license, fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer and a probation violation out of Volusia County regarding a possession of a controlled substance charge.
