Woman caught with weed at Lake Sumter Landing poised to avoid prosecution in the case

Candace Lania Pettit

A woman caught with marijuana this past November at Lake Sumter Landing, is poised to avoid prosecution in the case.

Candace Lania Pettit, 21, who lives in the Oakleaf Village Apartments on County Road 466 in Lady Lake, had been eastbound on Old Mill Run when her vehicle ran a stop sign, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Pettit said she did not see the stop sign.

She was asked if she had any contraband or narcotics in her vehicle and Pettit admitted she had a “small baggie of weed” with a “grinder” and “two smoking pipes,” the arrest report indicated.

She handed the deputy a clear plastic baggie which contained marijuana as well as a white zipper pouch which contained two glass smoking pipes and a metal herb grinder.

Earlier this month in Sumter County Court, Pettit agreed to the terms of a pre-trial intervention contract. As a part of the deal, she has agreed to stay away from alcohol and illicit substances, seek an alcohol/substance abuse evaluation and agreed to random drug screens.

If she completes the terms of the contract, the case will be dismissed.
