A 26-year-old Wildwood woman who objected to a search of her purse was arrested Friday on multiple drug charges.
Kirstie Sharee Brutton had been driving a vehicle with a non-functioning taglight when she was pulled over in the parking lot of the Economy Inn on State Road 44 in Wildwood.
When a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy approached the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected. A half-smoked marijuana joint was found in the vehicle’s center console.
Brutton objected when the deputy began to search her purse.
“Can I get some privacy?” she asked.
She said she did not want the deputy to look in her purse because she had feminine products inside, according to an arrest report. Inside of a black bag inside of her purse was a small pink bag containing a white residue. Inside of a brown wallet also within the purse was an additional two plastic bags containing a white residue. Located in the front passenger side door was a small plastic bag containing an off white powdery substance, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly referred to by its street name “Molly.”
Brutton was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $4,000 bond.
