Woman arrested in Village of Polo Ridge on warrants charging her in woman’s death

Justyn Kimberly Hudgins

A woman was arrested Friday in the Village of Polo Ridge on warrants charging her in a woman’s death in 2017 on U.S. 301.

Justyn Kimberly Hudgins, 37, was taken into custody on the Marion County warrants at her home on Walker Loop.

Hudgins is believed to have been at the wheel of a car at 2 a.m. Jan. 17, 2017 that struck and killed 43-year-old Alexis Monroe of Summerfield on U.S. 301 near Brown’s Country Market.

Monroe appeared to have been walking south in the right lane of U.S. 301 when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

In the hours after Monroe’s death, the Florida Highway Patrol launched a search for a silver 2002 Honda four-door sedan believed to be the vehicle that struck and killed Monroe. The vehicle was seized the following day in The Villages.

In 2015, Hudgins was arrested in The Villages on a warrant charging her with fleeing a police officer in a high speed pursuit and driving while license suspended or revoked.
