A woman was arrested on a drunk driving charge early Monday morning after attempting to leave the Beach Bar in Ocala.
Two Marion County sheriff’s deputies had been working an off-duty detail at the bar on U.S. Hwy. 27 when 54-year-old Kelley Jean Welsh attempted to leave, according to an arrest report. Two men attempted to persuade Welsh not to drive and to allow them to drive her home, as she appeared to be very intoxicated. She declined their offer and began to drive away.
Her Mazda was soon pulled over by the deputies.
Welsh said she had consumed two Miller beers and one Jim Beam whiskey, according to the arrest report. A cold, nearly empty 12-ounce bottle of Miller Lite was found in her purse.
She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .157 and .155 blood alcohol content.
She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and issued a written warning for open container.
She was booked at the Marion County Jail where bond was set at $1,000.
