A Fruitland Park woman was arrested Thursday after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to the Summerfield Wal-Mart for a possible theft in progress.
When the deputy arrived, he made contact with 36-year-old Jennifer Lynn Teate inside the loss prevention office at the store, located at 17961 S. U.S. Hwy. 441.
The deputy searched a makeup bag Teate was holding in her lap and found a syringe, a sheriff’s office report states. Teate told the deputy the syringe “was not hers” and “she was holding it for a friend so he wouldn’t get in trouble with his mother.”
Residue inside the syringe tested positive for heroin, the report says.
Teate, who lives at 204 College Road in Fruitland Park, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with possession of drug equipment. She was being held on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on July 25 at 1 p.m.
