A woman was arrested Sunday night after reportedly ripping off a man’s shirt during a fight over cleaning out a garage in the Village of Hemingway.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 9:24 p.m. to a home on Monroe Terrace where they arrested 66-year-old Leona Brown Canaris on a charge of battery.
The argument broke out after the man informed Canaris he no longer wanted to continue cleaning out the garage. He said she had been “screaming in his face” and ripped his shirt off of him while scratching him in the chest area, according to an arrest report. He had multiple scratches on his chest, the report noted. A torn white shirt was found on the bedroom floor.
She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $500.
