Wildwood commissioners to consider future of aging police department facility

The Wildwood Commission will hold a workshop session next month to discuss the future of its existing police department facility on Huey Street.

The police department is rapidly outgrowing the aging facility, said City Manager Bill Ed Cannon.

And more growth is coming to Wildwood.

The city might consider purchasing and retrofitting the old Wells Fargo bank building on Main Street, Cannon said. That building is currently up for sale.

“It’s a great location,” Cannon said.

Another option might be building a new facility, he said.

In 2014, a Villager whose wife’s purse had been stolen wrote to the Wildwood City Commission about what he saw as the poor condition of the police station.

Mayor Ed Wolf responded to the Villager’s letter in a subsequent commission meeting.

The workshop has been set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6 at Wildwood City Hall.
