Virginia L. Vergiels

Virginia L. Vergiels, 87, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Ida Township passed away Friday, Feb. 9, in Leesburg after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Vergiels was born July 7, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond and Bessie (Huffman) Croke. She married Robert T. Vergiels in February 1950 in Toledo, Ohio. The family lived on Douglas Road in Ida Township from 1963 to 1999. She was a homemaker and was active in her childrens’ activities when they attended Ida Schools. In her younger years, Mrs. Vergiels was an avid – and quite accomplished — bowler. In Leesburg, Mrs. Vergiels had been a member of the Leesburg Eagles Lodge.

Mrs. Vergiels is survived by a son, Robert M. Vergiels of Leesburg, FL, a sister, MaryAnn Pfeffer of Pitman, NJ, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Vergiels of Toledo, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two great-great grandsons. In addition, she is survived by her caregiver, Carole Louden. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a son, Bruce A. Vergiels.

A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Vergiels at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 in the Memorial Gardens at the Hawthorne Community, where she made her home in Leesburg. A private family service for Mrs. Vergiels will be held in the Spring.
