Villages resident arrested with cocaine after leaving car running, stepping inside store

A Villages resident was arrested with cocaine after leaving his car running and stepping inside the store at the Shell station on the Historic Side of The Villages.

Lady Lake police were responding to a report of a reckless driver when the vehicle was found running and unattended at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at the gas station at 3 LaGrande Boulevard.

Edward Merced Jr., 40, of the Village of Silver Lake, was located and it was determined his license had been suspended last year. He has five previous convictions for driving while license suspended. A small pink bag containing cocaine was found in his wallet.

He was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and driving while license suspended. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $9,000 bond.

Merced had been arrested last month after he was found to be in possession of marijuana and cocaine after a traffic stop on Morse Boulevard.
