A check for $20,000 was presented to Villagers For Hospice at the The Villages Parrot Heads’ Mallory Hill Phlocking on Dec. 20 by Rob Ainsley, chair of the Hospice Golf Tournament which was held Oct. 26 at Harbor Hills Country Club.
Villagers For Hospice is an organization in The Villages dedicated to fundraising for the local Cornerstone Hospice House. All the funds raised go directly to this facility in The Villages for the benefit of residents of The Villages.
The annual golf tournament was started by founding President David Macdougall, who was a staunch supporter of Hospice, in 2011. He passed away shortly after that inaugural tournament and the organization has continued to honor his memory by carrying on with the tournament and honoring his wishes to donate the proceeds to Villagers for Hospice.
The Villages Parrot Heads have committed to raising $100,000 for the Expansion Campaign of the facility in The Villages.
For this commitment, the club has secured naming rights for a new planned Music Therapy Room. To date the club has raised $79,000 of the $100,000 pledge, including the donation mentioned in the next paragraph.
Following the $20,000 check presentation, a Parrot Head member, who wished to remain anonymous, donated $2000 to Villagers For Hospice to be added to the total Club donation. The anonymous donor had just lost his mother, who was a patient in the Cornerstone Hospice House in the Villages at the time of her death, and he felt moved to make the donation in her memory.
Ainsley expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the Parrot Head volunteers and to Harbor Hills Country Club who helped to make the tournament a huge success.
