Villages couple in their 80s still haunted by 2015 case of identity theft

A Villages couple in their 80s is still being haunted by a 2015 case of identity theft.

The couple, who live on Torrey Pines Drive in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens, on Wednesday contacted the Lady Lake Police Department after receiving a collection notice from a collection agency. The collection agency indicated that a credit card had been opened with First Premier Bank in the husband’s name.

The couple told police that he had been the victim of identity theft in 2015 when several credit cards had been opened in his name. They had been able to contact the credit card companies and cancel them before anything had been charged. They did not file a police report at the time, because they thought they had taken care of the problem.

Lady Lake Police Chief Chris McKinstry offers tips to prevent becoming the victim of identity theft.
