A 50-year-old man who lives with his parents in The Villages has been sentenced in connection with a golf cart DUI.
Last week in Sumter County Court, De Canio pleaded no contest to the drunk driving charge. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
De Canio is free on $10,000 bond in a separate case.
De Canio, who lives in the Village of Fernandina, had been wanted by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office since Jan. 18 after he showed up at the front door of a residence located on Gibbes Way in the Village of Liberty Park. The fiancé of the property owner answered the door and she found De Canio with a large dagger-style knife in his hand. After a short exchange with the woman, De Canio ran from the residence, carrying the knife.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody on Jan. 23 in Marion County.
The woman has obtained a temporary injunction against De Canio.
He is due back in court on the aggravated stalking charge on March 12.
