Villager’s license plate stolen at Sears store turns up in criminal case in Alachua County

A Villager’s license plate stolen at a local Sears store turned up in a criminal case in Alachua County.

The Village of St. Charles resident had parked his truck in January at the Sears store in Baylee Plaza in Summerfield. He drove it home that night and did not notice until the next day that the license plate was missing. He replaced it the next day.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, which received the stolen license plate report, was contacted Wednesday by a detective from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. The detective indicated that the stolen license plate had been been captured on surveillance in criminal activity at a bank drive-through lane.

A similar incident occurred recently when an employee at Bob Evans on County Road 466 indicated that she believed her license plate was stolen while parked at Citizens First Bank at Spanish Springs Town Square. Her license plate was captured in surveillance during criminal activity in Ocala and Mount Dora.
