The three candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Florida attorney general will speak to Villagers for Trump on Monday night.
Former Circuit Court Judge Ashley Moody and state representatives Jay Fant and Frank White will explain their reasons for seeking the GOP nomination in hopes of replacing the term-limited Pam Bondi later this year.
Moody, who has been endorsed by Bondi, was a judge in the 13th Circuit Court, which serves of all Hillsborough County. She earned a master’s degree in accounting and a law degree from the University of Florida, as well as a degree in international law from Stetson, where she also was an adjunct professor. Prior to being elected to the 13th Circuit Court seat in 2006, Moody was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida.
Fant has represented District 15 in the Florida House since 2014. His district includes parts of the Jacksonville area in Duval County. Fant graduated from Washington and Lee University and earned a law degree from the University of Florida before serving on the board of his family’s business, First Guaranty Bank.
White has represented District 2 in the Florida House since 2016. His district includes the eastern part of the Florida Panhandle, along with much of the Big Bend region along the Emerald Coast. White earned a law degree from Southern Methodist University and is the chief financial officer and general counsel for Sansing Dealer Group, a collection of auto dealerships with stores in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. White also has practiced law in Texas and Florida for 15 years.
Doors open for Monday’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center in the Parlor Room. The goal is to give the candidates the chance to explain their positions on many of President Trump’s pivotal campaign promises before the group decides who or if it will endorse a candidate in the primary election Aug. 28. All residents of Sumter, Lake and Marion counties are invited to attend.
