A Villager’s car slammed into her own Village of Virginia Trace home early Monday night after she suffered an apparent medical issue.
Multiple crews from The Villages Public Safety Department were called to the home in the 900 block of Goose Creek, along with Sumter County Sheriff’s deputies and an American Medical Response ambulance. Firefighters had to extricate the woman from the vehicle before she could be transported to The Villages Regional Hospital.
A neighbor at the hospital Monday night said it’s believed the woman suffered a medical problem before losing control of the vehicle and hitting her house.
“She kept saying, ‘I hit the gas instead of the brakes,’” the neighbor told Villages-News.com. “She might have a broken wrist or something like that. We’re not sure.”
The woman’s car ended up lodged between the walls of her small porch up against the front door. Tracks in the woman’s front yard clearly showed the trajectory the car took after she possibly was attempting to turn into her driveway.
Two hours after the crash Monday night, debris littered the front porch of the home. The jagged edges of a decorative pole jutted down from the roof. And tire scuff marks covered the sidewalk near several patches of damaged stucco.
