If you have questions about how to get prepared for major storms, then you might want to pay a visit to Friday’s 13th annual Hurricane Expo at the Rohan Recreation Center.
The popular event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is designed to teach residents about hurricanes, what to expect and how to properly prepare for storms.
Hurricane Irma, which wreaked havoc on the area this past September, is fresh on the minds of Villagers who dealt with piles of debris and days without power following the 150-year storm.
That hurricane forced the opening of two shelters in The Villages (The Villages High School and Paradise Recreation Center) and another at The Villages Elementary of Lady Lake. And it prompted residents like Susan Williams and several other women who are part of the Facebook group, The Villages Friendly Folks, to drive around the Historic Side – that area of the community suffered the most – for five days after the hurricane delivering water, ice and food.
At Friday’s event, those attending will learn how to put together a disaster supply kit, how to register for special needs care, how to prepare when you have health issues, insurance tips and information about the threats and hazards Central Florida could face.
