Villager who claimed she was off her meds sentenced in shoplifting case

A Villager who claimed she was off her medication has been sentenced in a shoplifting case.

Tracie M. Adams, 58, of the Village of Collier, earlier this month in Lake County Court entered a plea of no contest to a charge of petit theft. She has been placed on probation for a year, ordered to take a shoplifting course, ordered to pay $940 in fines and court costs and ordered to make restitution to Belk in the amount of $125.

Adams entered the store at La Plaza Grande shopping plaza on the evening of March 30 and selected a Spartina purse and a Crown and Ivy keychain, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

She went into the fitting room, re-emerged and then went to a sales register where she conducted a return without a receipt. The items were valued at about $80. She was confronted by the store’s loss prevention officer.

During the investigation, about 45 gift cards and a bag of receipts were found to be in Adams’ possession.

Adams said she had been off her medication for about two weeks, the report said. She said she had suffered a head injury.

A check revealed she had been convicted of theft in 2015.
