Villager to be spared prosecution in groin-kicking incident

A Villager who was arrested after allegedly kicking a man in the groin after drinking at a Christmas party will be spared prosecution in the case.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 10:15 p.m. Dec. 12 to a home on Durango Drive in the Village of De La Vista. When they arrived, a man who was by the pool smoking a cigarette said he had been attacked by 52-year-old Lisa D. Mellea-Rego, who resides at the home with him.

He said they had been at a Christmas party and had consumed alcohol. When they arrived back at home, an argument broke out. When the man approached Mellea-Rego in an attempt to calm her down, the 4-foot 11-inch New Jersey native kicked him in the groin and pushed him in the face, according to the arrest report.

Mellea-Rego told deputies she had felt “scared” and taken action in self-defense.

Last week in Sumter County Court, the prosecutor’s office announced no information would be filed in the case.
