Villager seriously injured after golf cart crashes into wall of tunnel on multi-modal path

A Villager was seriously injured this morning after his golf cart crashed into the wall of a tunnel on the multi-modal path.

A passerby found 72-year-old Michael Parke Shafer of the Hampton Villas in the Village of Sabal Chase who had fallen from his golf cart as a result of the crash, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident appears to have occurred at 6:20 a.m. when the golf cart collided with the west wall of Tunnel B-16 located at Stillwater Trail near Buena Vista Boulevard. It appears Shafer suffered a medical episode, the FHP report indicated.

A crew was on site at Tunnel B-16 after the golf cart crash.

Shafer was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital and then transferred to Ocala Regional Medical.

He had been driving a 2000 Club Car golf cart.
