A Villager who has been locked in a dispute with his daughter over his home has been ordered into anger management.
Charles Newman, 82, on Wednesday entered into a pre-trial intervention deal in Lake County Court. If he successfully completes the terms of the agreement, a charge of battery involving his daughter will be dismissed. He must complete 12 hours of anger management, have “no violent contact” with his 41-year-old daughter, Susan Newman, and pay $100 toward the cost of his prosecution. He was represented by attorney Cary Rada.
Charles Newman was banned from his home at 1813 W. Schwartz Blvd. after he held his daughter’s face and spit at her during an argument in September. At the time of his arrest, Newman told police he was frustrated by the situation with his daughter and her suspected drug use.
Susan Newman has lived in her father’s house for several years. Her 8-year-old son has been living with her. Her father has been fighting in court to have her evicted from his home.
Charles Newman has also expressed his anguish over his grandson’s upbringing and at one point attempted to gain custody of him.
Susan Newmn’s boyfriend was also recently arrested on a charge of battery.
