A Villager facing child porn charges can’t go to court because he’s wearing a medical halo device.
A lawyer representing 67-year-old Joseph Leo Becker has asked the court to excuse her client from court until the medical halo device is removed. The court document did not explain why Becker is wearing a medical halo device. He was not wearing it on the day of his arrest.
Becker was jailed June 5 on 24 counts of possessing obscene material. He was taken into custody at his home at 4299 Deskin Lane in the Village of Osceola Hills at Lake Deaton.
According to a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office report, an undercover internet investigation was conducted March 2 in the Central Florida area on computers that were offering to distribute child pornography. One of the computers identified was located at Becker’s address, so the sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant to investigate.
He remains free on $120,000 bond.
A status conference in his case was scheduled for last week, but has been moved to Sept. 5.
