A 70-year-old Villager who crashed her car into a gate at the entrance to the Lakeshore Cottages in February has been sentenced in the case.

Kathy Kay Sutton, who owns a home on the Historic Side of The Villages, was arrested Feb. 17 after the accident at Lake Sumter Landing.

Sutton entered a plea of no contest to a charge of driving under the influence-property damage on May 30 in Sumter County Court. A separate charge of driving under the influence was dismissed.

Sutton has been sentenced to one year of probation, will lose her driver’s license for six months and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. Sutton’s attorney has filed a motion seeking permission for Sutton to “buy out” of her community service.
