A Villager who claimed she was off her medication will have to answer in court regarding an alleged fraudulent return at Belk.
Tracie M. Adams, 57, of the Village of Collier, entered the store at La Plaza Grande shopping plaza on the evening of March 30 and selected a Spartina purse and a Crown and Ivy keychain, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
She went into the fitting room, re-emerged and then went to a sales register where she conducted a return without a receipt. The items were valued at about $80. She was confronted by the store’s loss prevention officer.
During the investigation, about 45 gift cards and a bag of receipts were found to be in Adams’ possession.
Adams said she had been off her medication for about two weeks, the report said. She said she had suffered a head injury.
A check revealed she had been convicted of theft in 2015.
She was issued a notice to appear in Lake County Court on a charge of retail theft.
