Villager announces candidacy for statehouse seat left vacant after Hahnfeldt’s death

A Villager has announced that he will run for the Florida House of Representatives seat left vacant after the death last year of Villager Don Hahnfeldt.

Oren Miller of the Village of Sanibel has filed paperwork to run for the District 33 seat.

“I’m running for Florida House because no one up there is working,” said Miller.  “This was the least productive session in 21 years, and it is clear that their priorities are not the same as the people in Central Florida. It’s time to put Florida back to work – both the Legislature and Floridians.”

He is running as a Democrat.

His announcement came as fellow Villager and Democrat Francine Shebell suspended her campaign for the same seat.

Miller is deputy commander of the Villages Community Emergency Response Team and co-founder with his wife Angie Fox of the Villages Lost Pets group.

He worked as a logistics manager for Caterpillar in Illinois. Miller and his wife raised four children.

They have lived in The Villages since 2012.

Brett Hage earlier this year announced his Republican candidacy for the House seat.
