Village of St. Charles woman sentenced on DUI charge after hitting tree near St. Timothy

Stephanie Cerillo

A Village of St. Charles woman arrested after crashing into a tree Feb. 7 near St. Timothy Catholic Church has been sentenced on a charge of driving under the influence.

Witnesses said they saw 55-year-old Stephanie Tingley Cerillo at the wheel of a car at about 8:30 p.m. that day that made contact with a raised concrete median and then struck a tree, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

When a deputy spoke to Cerillo, the New York native leaned against a “vehicle for stability, stumbled, spoke with a low raspy voice and slurred speech,” the report said.

She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .156 and .160 blood alcohol content.

This past week in Sumter County Court, Cerillo entered a plea of no contest in the case. She was placed on probation for one year and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
