A Village of Sanibel man was arrested Sunday night on a charge of driving under the influence.
Walter Matthew Fanok, 69, had been at the wheel of a red Chevy Impala at 11:30 p.m. when he was spotted driving erratically, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy made contact with Fanok not far from his home in the 800 block of Journey Lane. Fanok’s chin was on his chest and it took nearly 90 seconds for Fanok to acknowledge the deputy.
Fanok admitted he had been drinking, but when the deputy asked him how much he had to drink, he responded, “None of your business.”
He refused to participate in field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.
A check revealed he had been convicted in 2013 on a charge of DUI in Marion County.
Fanok was booked on $1,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
