A man was arrested after he was found passed out early Monday morning in a golf cart on Buena Vista Boulevard.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded at 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious person. A yellow golf cart was found parked on Buena Vista Boulevard just north of Odell Circle. Asleep at the wheel was 47-year-old Brett Wesley Belden, who lives on Marlboro Street in the Village of Liberty Park. He said he had been out for a ride in the golf cart and was heading home. He said he had a few beers at home before heading out in the golf cart, according to an arrest report.
Midway through field sobriety exercises, the Michigan native refused to continue. He also refused to provide a breath sample.
The deputy making the arrest discovered Belden had a previous arrest for refusal to submit to a breath test.
Belden was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, as well as a charge of refusal to submit to a breath test.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $11,000 bond.
