Village of Fernandina man sentenced after DUI arrest at Lake Sumter Landing

Christopher Cardone

A Village of Fernandina man has been sentenced on a charge of driving under the influence following his arrest in March at Lake Sumter Landing.

Christopher Gus Cardone, 58, had been driving a gray Nissan utility vehicle March 23 when he did not stop at a four-way stop at Lakeshore Drive and Fish Camp Road, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. It appeared he was intoxicated. Cardone admitted to the deputy he had been drinking gin at an Italian restaurant at the square. The Connecticut native failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .096 and .114 blood alcohol content.

Last week in Sumter County Court, Cardone entered a plea of no contest in the case. He has been placed on probation for one year and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
