Village of Dunedin woman arrested en route to pick up her husband at Sanford airport

Suzanne Helen McKeown

A Village of Dunedin woman was arrested on her way to pick up her husband at the Orlando Sanford International Airport.

Law enforcement had been called at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday to the parking lot of a Big Lots in Eustis when another motorist spotted a burgundy Hyundai SUV she believed was being driven by an impaired driver. The woman told the driver of the SUV to pull into the Big Lots parking lot and then called police.

When a Eustis police officer asked the driver of the SUV for her driver’s license, she instead gave the officer her Villages ID, which identified her as 67-year-old Suzanne Helen McKeown who lives at 3674 Barrel Loop, according to an arrest report. Her speech was slurred and the odor of alcohol was coming from the inside of the vehicle. McKeown told the officer she was on her way to Sanford to pick up her husband at the airport. She told the officer the airport was only “45 minutes away.”

She lost her balance during field sobriety exercises and “None of the steps taken were able to be maintained while keeping a straight line,” the officer wrote in the arrest report. She provided breath samples that registered .129 and .139 blood alcohol content.

She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Lake County Jail. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
