The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has released video surveillance from Bison Valley showing a suspect in the theft of a vehicle and burglaries of two other vehicles, including a Lady Lake Police Department patrol car.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 12 in the family subdivision off County Road 101, within walking distance of The Villages Charter School.
A gun and an iPhone were taken during the car burglaries. The off-duty police officer, who lives in Bison Valley, had secured his service weapon and laptop in his home. A window had been broken in the squad car.
The stolen vehicle was recovered in Marion County, just north of the Sumter County line, off of county Road 102. The gun has not been recovered.
Video surveillance was obtained in Bison Valley of the suspect trying to open a vehicle door and looking into the vehicle at 1:58 a.m. The suspect masks his face with a flashlight during the incident.
