VHA’s Hoedown promises a day of family fun

Everyone is invited to what quickly has become a major social event on The Villages’ calendar: the VHA’s annual Hoedown, Saturday, Jan. 27, starting at 10 a.m. at The Villages’ Polo Field Complex.

Featured activities include performances by the country band Hay-Fire, vocalist Sara Saver as well as by the Orange Blossom Square Dancers and CanCan Dancers.

The Cowboy 6 Gun Territory will reenact an old-fashioned gunfight and put on ‘quick-draw’ and bull-whip demonstrations.  In addition, visitors can ride a mechanical bull, compete in a lassoing contest, and watch the Puttin’ on the Blitz Mounted Drill Team.

One of the most popular events is ‘cow chip’ bingo with a $500 cash prize.

Meanwhile, children will be busy at the Kids Korner’s petting zoo, bounce houses, climbing walls, as well as at face-painting and activities booths.  They and their parents will be entertained by the PT Mortimor’s Medicine and Magic Show; visiting numerous booths sponsored by local clubs and organizations; and can enjoy a variety of foods from several vendors.

Tickets, at $7 each, can be purchased at countrywesternhoedown.com or The Villages’ box offices. They will be sold at the door for $8.  Stadium seating is available at $15. There is no charge for children under 12, or for cars’ and carts’ parking.

“We hope residents and their families, from The Villages and surrounding communities, join us on Jan. 27,” said Fred Briggs, VHA president. “We know they’ll have a great time and will appreciate that all proceeds go to our Charitable Foundation that funds our ‘Helping Hands’ program loaning durable medical equipment to patients in need, and supports The Villages Hospital Auxiliary Foundation.”

More information about the Hoedown and volunteer opportunities is available from Phil Walker, Hoedown chairman, at (352) 753-8678 or freespirit2008@sbcglobal.net.
