U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-FL, will travel Wednesday to Puerto Rico to meet with local officials and get a firsthand look at the ongoing recovery efforts.
More than 1,000 deaths related to Hurricane Maria have been reported.
Nelson will meet with Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello and other local leaders throughout the day.
Nelson is scheduled to return from Puerto Rico late Wednesday night. He will be in Kissimmee Thursday to meet with local Puerto Rican community leaders and discuss his visit at 1 p.m. at the Osceola County Commission Chambers located at 1 Courthouse Square in Kissimmee.
