To the Editor:
We all love this country. Maybe in this politically divided nation, we can at least agree on that. And we agree that we want our country, through its leaders, to reflect who we are. If we can agree on that, then we also have to agree that Trump does not meet this minimum standard. His pettiness, his meanness, his self-aggrandizement, his compulsive lying and his bullying would be unacceptable in any classroom of normally functioning 3rd graders.
The prerequisite for being an effective leader is first being a decent human being, someone people see as a model, someone whose word your trust and whose values you share. In a leader, these are traits we take for granted. These are traits Trump does not possess. He is not a decent human being. He is not trustworthy. His values are opposed to many of those enshrined in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Tweets have been deemed to be official presidential communications to be preserved for history. They will form a major component of Trump’s presidential library. Think about that. Maybe there needs to be a caveat inscribed at the entrance saying, “Let the contents of this building be a reminder that the citizens of this great nation are so much better than this.”
