Truck overturns on overpass forcing detour on Interstate 75 in Sumter County

A load of compost spilled onto Interstate 75 when a semi truck overturned Monday afternoon in Sumter County.

The truck had been traveling at 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 at Mile Marker 307 when it overturned and spilled a load of compost material on the roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver escaped with minor injuries.

The northbound lanes of I-75 have been shut down with traffic diverted at the State Road 50 exit. As of 4:15 p.m., one northbound emergency lane had opened, but other lanes remained closed. Traffic is heavily backed up.
