A visit this year of the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will include a fly-in of Vietnam War-era helicopters.
The Band of Brothers, which is once again bringing the wall to the soccer fields on Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake, is prepping for the event set for Nov. 1 to 5.
The period-correct helicopters will land on the soccer fields and serve as static displays for visitors to the wall. The helicopter’s role in combat expanded enormously during the Vietnam War as thousands of “choppers” rapidly transported personnel throughout war zones. The UH-1 “Huey” became the ubiquitous symbol of the war.
The Band of Brothers on Monday will be presenting their plans for the event to the Lady Lake Commission. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Lady Lake Town Hall.
The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall was here in 2015 and proved to be a popular attraction.
