‘The Lofts of Brownwood’ could foreshadow change at Villages’ third town square

Wildwood commissioners Monday night approved land-use changes for the Brownwood area along State Road 44.

Commissioners enacted a resolution to vacate Brownwood Boulevard between Shady Nook Run and County Road 44A so villas can be built.

A neighborhood called The Lofts of Brownwood is planned for the area. The project will include a resort-style pool, clubhouse and fitness center.

Commissioners also approved an amendment adding acreage to The Villages Brownwood Community Development District

The amendment adds 66.7 acres and subtracts another 25.3 acres from the Brownwood district, resulting in a net increase of 41.4 acres. The district now encompasses 1,299 acres.

Land added to the district will be occupied by the Brownwood Hotel and Spa, the Center for Advanced Healthcare and Atwood Bungalows near Grand Traverse Plaza.

Another amendment adds 13 acres to Community Development District 9, south of County Road 466A.

The affected acreage lies in Wildwood, so commission approval was needed. The change does not affect the city limits.
