Marion County Fire Rescue and ShandsCair transported two teenagers to a local trauma center Wednesday evening as a result of an all-terrain vehicle crash near 4095 SE 142nd Lane in Summerfield.

At 7:26 p.m., Marion County Public Safety Communications received a 911 call about an ATV accident involving a 15-year-old female and a 13-year-old male.  Marion County Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene to find an ATV that had collided head-on with a tree.

The injured teens have been identified as Crystal Strubelt and Thomas Strubelt, both of 14467 SE 45th Court in Summerfield. Crystal Strubelt had been driving at the time of the accident, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

MCFR paramedics evaluated the pair  on-scene and declared them trauma alerts. Both patients were transported to Shands Hospital in Gaineville, one by ShandsCair helicopter and one by MCFR ambulance.

Crystal Strubelt is listed in critical condition. Thomas Strubelt is listed in serious condition.

Neither one had been wearing a helmet, the FHP report indicated.
