Teenager’s body recovered from quarry in Ocala

A 17-year-old’s body was recovered from a quarry Saturday in Ocala.

At about 11 a.m. Saturday, Marion County Fire Rescue received a call about a possible drowning at a limerock quarry located behind the Hard Rock Cycle Park on Gainesville Road.

When MCFR personnel arrived on scene, they found 10 juveniles, all ages 16 and 17, near the quarry indicating that a 17-year old male had gone in the water and had not come out. MCFR called in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in locating the missing teenager.

MCSO Patrol Deputies, Crisis Intervention Specialists, the Aviation Unit and the Underwater Recovery Team all responded to attempt to locate the teen. At approximately 2:15 p.m., the dive team located the deceased teenager underwater. The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.

MCSO Major Crimes detectives are currently on scene and their investigation is on-going.
