A suspected shoplifter reportedly fled Thursday with a spaceheater and makeup stolen from Wal-Mart in Summerfield.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the Wal-Mart located on 17961 South U.S. Hwy. 441 in reference to a retail theft. The deputy spotted 29-year-old Alexandria Renee Thompson-Carr running across the Wal-Mart parking lot and activated his emergency lights. Thompson-Carr continued running across U.S. Hwy. 441 and into an Office Depot parking lot. The deputy announced over a PA system that she should stop running, but she continued to run until the deputy caught up with her. Thompson-Carr finally stopped and threw the stolen items onto the ground.
A Wal-Mart loss prevention officer showed up and identified Thompson-Carr as the woman he observed taking the items from the store. During the investigation, six stolen items were discovered including a space heater valued at $44.50. A small pink zipper bag was also located in her purse and contained several used needles and a small Ziploc bag that contained heroin.
Thompson-Carr provided deputies with a false name and then stated that she would not give her name or date of birth unless they allowed her to talk on the phone with her boyfriend.
She was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail. Thompson-Carr told deputies she did not want to provide her real name because she owed a lot of money in child support. She was also wanted on a Marion County warrant charging her with battery on a pregnant person.
