Supervisor of Elections warns voters about misleading mailings from D.C.-based organization

Wesley Wilcox

Marion County Supervisor of Elections Wesley Wilcox is warning citizens about a potentially misleading mailer they may have received.

According to Wilcox, the piece was sent by the Center for Voter Information, a Washington D.C.-based organization. He said the group has previously used outdated and incorrect data when mailing pre-filled Florida voter registration applications to already registered voters, deceased family members, minors and pets.

“As a result, voters become confused and concerned about their voter registration status and question the accuracy of the voter rolls” he said. “Voters also mistakenly believe these letters originate from the supervisor of elections office.”

Wilcox said that it’s important for voters to know that neither the Marion County Supervisor of Elections nor the Florida Secretary of State has printed or distributed these unofficial mailings and are in no way affiliated.

Wilcox added that for the most accurate and up-to-date voter information, residents should visit VoteMarion.com to look up their official voter record or call (352) 620-3290. Voters who have questions, complaints or concerns about the mailer from the Center for Voter Information can call that organization at (202) 766-6575 or visit www.centerforvoterinformation.org.
