Summerfield man urinates on Morse Boulevard during drunk driving investigation

Luis Mercado

A Summerfield man urinated on Morse Boulevard in The Villages during a drunk driving investigation.

Luis Daniel Mercado, 38, had been driving a car that was spotted speeding up and slowing down at about 10 p.m. Thursday on State Road 44 near Buena Vista Boulevard, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy initiated a traffic stop at State Road 44 and Morse Boulevard.

Mercado indicated he does not speak English well, so a Spanish-speaking deputy was summoned to the scene. While waiting for the deputy’s arrival, Mercado “began urinating in the middle of Morse Boulevard,” the arrest report said.

Through the translator, Mercado said he does not have a driver’s license and had consumed a six-pack of beer.

Mercado refused to participate in field sobriety exercises. He also refused to provide a breath sample.

He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $3,500.
