Summerfield man arrested with marijuana after traffic stop for faulty taglight

Omar Yovani Marroquin

A Summerfield man who was pulled over for a faulty taglight ended up going to jail early Wednesday morning.

A Marion County deputy stopped 24-year-old Omar Yovani Marroquin just before midnight in the 16300 block of Hwy. 475. Marroquin told the deputy he didn’t have a valid driver’s license because he had unpaid traffic tickets, a report states.

While speaking with Marroquin, the deputy said he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. When he asked about the odor, Marroquin told him he had marijuana in the center console of his car, the report says.

While searching the vehicle, the deputy located a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. The deputy also verified that Marroquin didn’t have a driver’s license or identification card.

Marroquin was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams. He was released Wednesday night on $2,000 bond.
